Strategic Thinking for Leaders
As a leader, it is very important to think; but more important is thinking at a deeper strategic level.
To help leaders think more strategically
To help leaders understand the difference between objectives, strategy and tactics
The OST Model
In the introduction to the program, we talk about the OST model, which is the framework that helps leaders think more strategically. It is a simple yet deceptively deep model. The model is laid out as follows 1) objectives 2) strategy 3) tactics.
In this module we define what an objective is and is not, and how to go about identifying your objectives. We take groups through several examples and talk about the challenges most leaders have with objective setting.
In this segment we take people through a discussion about strategy. We help them determine strategies and measure them.
In the third module, we talk about tactics. We also show people a diagram that link the three elements together and how they all interrelate, and the 6 benefits of using the model.
Group Exercise #1
In this exercise we break participants into groups and them a stack of cards. We have them work through the cards and put them all into categories. We then debrief and find out which group got them all right and why.
Group Exercise #2
In this exercise we break into groups again and have them work on one of their real problems and plan out solutions using the OST model.
We wrap up the session by asking each person to create a comprehensive action plan on how they are going to apply what they have learned.
