Program Outline:

Preparation

In the opening portion of our program we talk about one of the keys to fantastic facilitation; proper preparation. As we often say “professionals properly prepare.” We covered the importance of developing objectives, handling logistics dealing with space, and understanding pre-meeting communication

Analysis

In this portion of the program we talk about the importance of audience analysis and understanding the group dynamics for the group you’re going to be facilitating, and the four most important questions you need to ask in order to facilitate effectively for that particular meeting.

Role of the facilitator

In this part of the program, we talk about the roles and responsibilities of the facilitator. We talk about what facilitation is and what facilitation is not. We also talk about the difference between speaking, presenting and facilitating, and there are major differences between each of them.

Facilitator toolbox

In this section of the program, we talk about tools for effective facilitation including 1) setting expectations 2) creating guidelines 3) use of charts and handouts 4) how to use agendas, timetables and action plans 5) AV and how to use them effectively.

Handling difficult people

At some point every facilitator is going to facilitate a meeting where they are challenged by a difficult meeting participant. In this part of the program we talk about how to handle eight different difficult types who certainly give facilitators a run for their money. A true mark of professionalism is how a facilitator handles difficult people who are in the meeting room.

Inside secrets the pros know

In the last portion of the program we give you 10 insider tips about facilitation that only professional facilitators really know. These techniques can definitely add to your tool box as a facilitator, and help get you to the next level.

Action Plans

We wrap up the session by asking each person to create a comprehensive action plan on how they are going to apply what they have learned.
