Program Outline:

Great teams

In the introduction to our program, we do an interactive exercise to determine the dynamics of how the team works together, and then do a debrief of the exercise to understand the dynamics of how the project went. We have an in-depth discussion about what makes great teams possible.

Team dynamics

In this portion of the training, we talk about the team-building process and determine where the team is in that step-by-step model. We then do a behavioral style assessment to determine the behavioral style of each person on the team. Finally, we talk about the strengths and weaknesses of each behavioral style and how to adjust your style to other team members.

Dealing with change

In the fast-paced world that we live in, it seems that change is a constant force, every single day. Because of the rapid nature of change, teams need to learn how to be resilient and how to respond during a period of change to be successful. We talk about the change cycle and where the team is in the change cycle, how to handle change as a team and how people feel about change.

Behavioral standards

Many people are not aware of this, but many world-class organizations are highly successful because they have something called behavioral standards. Having a team that has behavioral standards ensures that you’ll have consistency and predictability, and get better results. We then help the team learn how they can develop and implement behavioral standards, in order to greatly increase the chances of success as a team and to get better results for the organization. We also talk about how behavioral standards can be measured, and how team members can hold each other accountable going forward.

Final exercise

In the final exercise of our training program, we talk about what people should start, stop and continue doing as individual contributors, and also as a team. This leads to a very in-depth discussion and, ultimately, agreement on what they are going to do and not do in the future. What’s revealing about this exercise is that often, teams never had this discussion, because no one ever even brought the topic up. The team never thought about what was working and what wasn’t.

Action Plans

We wrap up the training session by asking each person to create a comprehensive action plan on how they’re going to apply what they’ve learned, and ask them to share it with the team.
